ADHD

     For a while I have felt that I struggle with concentration, or not feeling smart enough despite my achievements, as well as being too easily distracted by things. I also have and still do suffer with anxiety and depression (I'm not as bad anymore BTW). My depression was so bad one point, that I decided to seek help and eventually I chose to stopped drinking. It wasn’t easy going 'Cold Turkey,' but I did it. As of writing this, I have not had a drink for over 14 months, and I feel so much better in the head for it. Although I will occasionally still get depressed, it no longer lasts days. A couple of hours at the absolute most.
     To date, I have not been formally been identified as having ADHD. I have applied for a referral a while ago now so I could be assessed but it’s a job in the UK because the waiting list is massive apparently. But after spending a few months reading up on it between my wife and I, as I stated a while ago in a blog, I feel like, with ADHD, the shoe fits.
Here are some examples;

  • I struggle to listen to long conversations.

  • I'm very inconsistent.

  • I get lost when taking on complex information and panic when given something to read with information I have to remember.

  • I will more often than not avoid communicating with people, even if I know them.

  • I procrastinate for hours on a bad day.

  • Not to mention, but I will, the anxiety of going out the front door and meeting people.

  • All this coupled with a low opinion of myself and any of my achievements.

     The list goes on haha, but you get the picture. However, since I stopped drinking these effects have been seriously lessened, but they are still there and I guess they always will be. So I try to self-manage them as best I can and that is why I try to use a daily and weekly list on my phone to help manage things. This has helped a lot!
     I'm happy now, happier than I've been in a very long time. Quitting drink helped with that immensely, so if you are considering it, I can't recommend that enough. Just be aware that going 'Cold Turkey,' If you depend on alcohol can be dangerous, so you'll need to seek advice from a professional or speak to people who run things like AA meetings. Just be safe!
     So recently I had someone from Drugwatch contact me and they have asked me if I would like to share a link to their website to help others who may feel they have ADHD and of course I’m happy to help, so here is the link.
     Drugwatch is a free online health resource reviewed by the Health on the Net Foundation, University of Illinois at Chicago's Drug Information Group, and The Physicians' Review Network Inc.

     That is all from me on this subject, but I hope it gives you a little more insight into myself and into the symptoms of ADHD.

Kind regards
Richard
